Passion's Birthday & Baptism

I have been pretty distracted over the last several weeks but since Passion turned 8 nearly a month ago, I thought now would be a good time to finally post about it! Passion chose to have a dog-themed party this year (no surprises there!). We had her party at my parents house since our home was pretty much all packed into the moving truck by this point. Here are a few photos from the party.
The Cake!

I LOVE that I caught the "yes!" face in this shot. I guess we picked out the right gift?!

Passion got her first full set of scriptures for her eighth birthday which I think we will make a family tradition. Passion was very excited to get a full set with her name on them. We tried to keep the party fairly low-key so we could make the following weekend of her baptism the focus.  Passion was really quite excited (and a little nervous) about being baptized but the day went amazingly smooth and she had a wonderful baptism. I have to admit that as the mom of a newly baptized daughter, I felt and still do feel this overwhelming sense of responsibility now. I mean, I know it has always been my responsibility to help Passion make good choices and teach her those things that will help her choose the right but for some reason now I feel a deeper heaviness about that responsibility. To watch her be baptized and know that she is completely clean . . . I just want her to stay that way. Does that make sense? Has anyone else out there felt this way or am I just a little emotionally overwhelmed right now?
Anyway, the fact of the matter is that Passion hasn't remained sinless since her baptism but she now has the huge blessing of being able to repent and make it right. I am so glad she chose to be baptized. She has set a goal to read the Book of Mormon and she's been faithfully reading it almost everyday. It is so exciting to see her testimony grow. It is such a privilege to be Passion's mom!

Passion with my parents.

All of my side of the family that were able to come.

Us with Travis' mom & dad who drove over from Portland for the big event!

Since Passion's baptism was two days before we were moving to Arizona, we decided to have a little get together afterwards to celebrate Passion's Baptism and also say goodbye to so many friends and family that we would miss living near. It was a really great evening. Thank you to everyone who came!

Happy 8th Birthday Passion! We love you!

Passion looks so beautiful in her white dress! You can see the excitement and joy on her face, I love it :) And I am really impressed that she is reading everyday in her scriptures~!

I think I understand what you are saying with the feeling you have now with her at 8, to a degree. I remember Emmie being placed on my chest after her birth, and having this overwhelming sense that she was perfect, clean, and untouched from this world (in a physical sense). It wouldn't stay that way, but I had to do my best to keep her safe. But I can completely see that applying spiritual sense with your 8 year old daughter being "reborn", the experiences sort of parallel each other. We teach our baby's how to clean themselves when dirty, feed themselves nutritious foods, and when older, clean themselves spiritually through repentance, and nourish their souls with that which is uplifting, pure and good. It's kind of like you've graduated to the next level in parenting :)

It gave me a lot of food for thought, thank you for sharing your feelings about it :)

Passion!! Congratulations! We are SO excited that you're an "Official" member of the church now! You look beautiful in white- we dress in white on special occasion to show our worthiness, cleanliness, and purity to Heavenly Father and you look amazing! You' have awesome parents who would love nothing more than to see you make PERFECT choices everyday, but we're not perfect and sometimes our choices aren't always perfect either... so your parents can teach you all about the Atonement and what an awesome thing that is (I'm sure you already know all about it). Thank you for being such a great example to Preston and Cash! We are so happy for you!
