Passion's 1st Field trip!

Today Passion went on her first field trip to "The Sheep Shed." For the last couple of weeks she has been studying farms and sheep at school. Today we got to ride on the bus together (Passion thought that was pretty cool). Then at the farm we saw all kinds of sheep and watched a sheep get sheared. I thought it was kind of cool to watch but Passion thought it was disgusting!
Then we learned more about wool and what types can be dyed and spun into yarn. The kids got to help spin a rainbow (watch on the video below). Last (and I think, Passion's favorite part) was petting and holding the baby lambs and rams. They also had a store so Passion got to take home a little souvenir. Overall we thought it was a pretty cool field trip!

Here are a group of girls from Passion's class before we got on the bus. From left to right: Natalie, Jane, Ysabella, Madison, Passion, Jordyn & Isabella.

Here is the beginning of the sheep shearing. This sheep was all brown and black.
Look at all that wool! Typically they can get 10 lbs. of wool from each sheep!
Then all the kids got the touch the sheep's skin. It was very oily because it is covered with lanolin oil. That is where lanolin oil comes from, I didn't know that, did you?!
Of course we had to stop and pet the sheep dogs!
Here are the kids learning about dyeing wool.

And last, Passion playing with the cute, little lambs.

We passed a field with sheep and lambs today and the kids informed me that they wanted a lamb at our house! Like that will ever happen!
Looks like she had fun on her first field trip. Don't you love how excited they get to go on the bus!
